Firstly, disconnect the battery by removing the battery leads. Make sure you have any radio codes or similar for equipment on the vehicle, and always remove the negative lead first.
If you have an automatic car battery charger attach it to the battery and leave until it has completed the charging process.
If using a manual car battery charger follow these instructions:
A car battery should be capable of accepting a recharge at a minimum of 1/20th of its capacity. ie: 50 Amp Hours = 2.5 Amp charge. The car battery should be charged until all cells are gassing freely (maximum 20 hours).
After charging, if the car battery will not accept a charge at the above rate or if 3 or more cells fail to respond in a prolonged charge, the battery has failed due to aging, wear and tear or deep cycling discharge.
If the battery has accepted a charge, connect the battery back up to the car connecting the positive lead first.
