Having been revealed just last month at Frankfurt, the 2010 Volkswagen Golf R will go on sale in Germany at the end of 2009. Now, fans in American will be grad to know that the car is confirmed to hit US dealerships sometime next year, branded as the GTI-R. The GTI-R will replace the R32.
The 2010 Golf GTI-R will have the same engine as the Scirocco R, - the 2.0-liter TSI engine. This turbocharged 4-cylinder is mated to either a manual transmission or Volkswagen's DSG. The output is rated at 265 horsepower--the most powerful production Golf ever. VW's 4Motion all-wheel-drive system will send the power to all four wheels. When equipped with the DSG the GTI-R reaches 0-62 mph in 5.5 seconds and the top speed is limited to 155 mph. The standard manual gets it done 0.2 seconds slower.
Average fuel consumption of the new Golf R is about 21 percent better than the R32, up to 27.7 mpg combined according to VW.
In terms of styling, the new LED daytime running lights and tail lights add the modern look to the car.
