MILTON KEYNES, United Kingdom – January 23, 2009: The Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been honoured as Best Luxury Car for the third consecutive year at the What Car? Car of the Year 2009 awards.
Steve Fowler, Group Editor of What Car? magazine commented that “The Mercedes S-Class diesel remains the epitome of affordable luxury motoring, but does so without cutting corners…the finest materials, scrupulous attention to detail and total focus on what buyers of the finest saloon cars expect.”
Over the last 10 years the S-Class has received the accolade ‘Best Luxury Car’ eight times from What Car? magazine. Dermot Kelly, Managing Director, Mercedes-Benz Cars said: “We are delighted that What Car? continues to recognise the world beating qualities that the S-Class offers drivers and passengers alike. The refinement, efficiency, comfort, safety and luxurious feel of the S-Class all contribute to its success. Our customers demand the best.”
Since the S-Class first launched in 1992 Mercedes-Benz has sold over 38,000 cars and last year the flagship model accounted for 21% of sales in the luxury car segment.
The S-Class has long been the launch pad for pioneering technology developed by Mercedes-Benz and was the first car to feature such cutting edge safety systems as Pre-Safe, Night View Assist and Distronic Plus. Pre-Safe was adopted onto the E-Class several years ago and the new model will further benefit from the technological advances of S-Class when it goes on sale later this year.
Inside the S-Class, attention to detail is paramount and the sumptuous leather interior, multi-contour seats and climate control with 18 different settings make the cabin the perfect place to be, ensuring driver and passengers arrive at their destination feeling refreshed and relaxed.
